The Mares of Painted Prairie

As any good breeder will tell you; a breeder is only as good as the mares in his broodmare band.  Regardless of how good the stallion, a great baby cannot be produced by crossing a great stallion on a mediocre mare.  We try to obtain and retain the very best mares we can find, choosing mares with outstanding conformation, disposition, and with pedigrees containing outstanding individuals who have made a name for themselves both in the show ring and in the breeding shed.    Some of the mares below have prices next to their names.  This is no way should lead you to believe these mares are unworthy, but in our constant search to keep the most current bloodlines and best crosses to our stallions, and to keep our numbers manageable, we do feel the need to keep some mares on the sales list.

Another mare we are delighted to have acquired from Roger and Jolana in 2006.  When I first saw her in their pasture she just had such class, such a "look at me" look to her.  And I loved her 06 colt by Lucky, and she blessed us with a loud full brother in 07.  We are delighted to announce Pre will be expecting a 08 foal sired by our own "Tommy".

Another gem in our broodmare band, Rainbow is retired from the show ring.  She has everything we like to see; size, super correct, a great hip, fabulous neck with great length and shape, a nicely shaped head with a refined throatlatch.  We've retained her 2004 filly (see Clu's Border Bandit)  In foal for 08 to our own Major's Gold Chunk!!!

Clu’s Border Bandit

Owned and shown by my daughter Stana Pike
Oustanding filly out of our own “Rainbow,” and by the Superior Halter Stallion Clu It To It, Bandit is beginning her under saddle career under the capable hands of her best friend, Stana.  Stana says Bandit is looking like another versatile one with the ability to go both English and Western.  Not only did Bandit and Stana begin in Bandit's yearling year as Stana's first lungeliner, Stana has done ALL of Bandit's training to date.

Miss Go Lucky Bardot

2005 SPB Chestnut Filly ~ Bridget

A super lovely filly we obtained from Roger and Jolana Williams.  We are so in love with "Lucky" we took a big leap and invested in a few of his daughters.  Plus the pedigree's are to die for!  At this point we are not sure if we'll breed Bridgett in  08 or condition her for show.  Currently Bridget is being started under saddle, and really enjoying her work and showing a lot of brains!  Isn't she just the prettiest thing?  9/30/07  update!!  Bridget is off at the trainers and going to spend the next couple months chasing cows!!!      ...  $1800

A new member of our broodmare band, Sweetie comes to us from Rhodes Paint Horses of Mound City, Kansas.  She's doing everything in her power to live up to her name!  I bought Sweetie because she's in foal to the one and only Awesome Andy, and because I have grown to respect Angela Rhodes ability to judge a good horse and represent them fairly.  When Sweetie stepped off the trailer I was smitten by her absolute classy good looks, gorgeous head and neck, and powerful sloping well defined hip.  But mostly I was smitten by her charm, wonderful manners and fabulous even disposition.  Sweet has begun her under saddle training and is coming along fabulously!  Sorry, Sweetie is currently not offered for sale.

This is my daughter Sarah’s show horse.  She’s a mare we know we can pull out for anyone to ride, and what a ride! She has the nicest smoothest jog of any horse I ever had the pleasure to sit.  Sedona always throws ultra fancy babies for us.  ***01/15/08 Due to the loss of Sarah's horse Lace (see Home page) I feel the time isn't right to sell a horse Sarah was/is attached to.  With that in mind, Sedona is off the sales list for now.
