Why Link Exchanges are More Important than Search Engines In a 2000 survey by Stat Market, internet links accounted for a little over 46% of website traffic. Search engines got a mere 6.8%! The rest-- 47%-- came from 'direct navigation', which means bookmarks (visitors that have already seen & saved the site) or people who already know the site address and type it in. Search engines are still important, but as you can see, building strong link partnerships has far more potential. If 100 people link to you, and each sends you 1 visitor a day, that's 100 more visitors you'll be getting daily! And setting up 100 links is possible-- it might take awhile if you have to add them all manually. Engines Like You Too Plan your links pages right The best thing you can do for your site is link to other related websites-- for example, if you sell saddles, you might not want to link to other saddle selling sites, but you would want to link to websites for horse ranches, grooming products, trail rides, etc. You wouldn't link to a site non-related, like an electronics supply shop. Keep your links relevant-- it helps people who will be interested in your product find you, and it improves your search engine ranking. Also, don't bury your links page where no one will find it.
