Biography

Have you ever said any of the following statements below?

“I squeeze and squeeze and he still doesn’t go forward!”
“I wish I could slow my horse down.”
“Why am I so exhausted when I am through riding my horse?”
“My horse is so lazy - he makes me do all the work.”
“My horse gets so nervous sometimes.”
“After a long ride, my knees and back hurt so much I dread getting off my horse!”

If your riding has become a battle or if you feel stressed, painful, stuck or if you would like to simply improve your communication with your horse, Jane Crowley can help!

Jane Crowley grew up on a dairy farm in Maine, and it was there that her love of horses was born. She began riding horses at the age of five and developed her skills over the years by training with many masters at numerous clinics. These renowned trainers include:

Centered Riding: Sally Swift (since 1983) , Susan Harris, Mary Fenton, Saundra Code-Cabell, Peggy Cummings, Sue Leffler, Lucy Bump, and Wendy Murdoch

Western/Natural Horsemanship: Clinton Anderson, Bobby Hart, Carol Coppinger
Cross Country/Hunters: Tadd Coffin, Denny Emerson, George Morris, Marshall Grey
Dressage: Lendon Grey, Max Gahwyler, Micheal Poulin, Francois Lemaire de Ruffieu, Ed Rothkranz

Clinics Audited:
Monty Roberts, John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Clinton Anderson, and Dennis Reis

From years of classical training and natural horsemanship studies, Jane Crowley shares various teaching techniques to achieve freedom of movement and self-carriage for both horse and rider. Jane also helped start the Boston Mountain Pony Club in North West Arkansas where she was a ratings judge as well as a instructor for the Pony Club.

What sets Jane apart from other Centered Riding instructors is that she has also been trained in Natural Horsemanship. She found that she needed more than Centered Riding techniques during some of her clinics. She found there were a lot of disrespectful horses out there that need help! Through a series of mounted and unmounted exercises, Jane will show you how your own body patterns can inhibit both you and your horse from true harmony regardless of your discipline of riding. Many riders are taught to ride as if they were sitting on a block of wood hearing over and over again to “sit still, heels down, use more leg, put your shoulders back, push and drive with your seat.” In Jane’s opinion, if you do these things, your horse will react to the tension in your body either by shutting down or overreacting. You will not hear any of these commands when attending one of Jane’s popular clinics.

Jane spent years hearing these words as well, until she met Sally Swift who changed EVERYTHING! No more painful knees, back, or tired muscles. She turned riding into an unforgettable waltz. From that day forward, Jane’s riding became a real partnership that she just HAD to share with others! Therefore, she travels extensively giving demonstrations, clinics and seminars.

Jane is currently riding with Frenchman Francois Lemaire de Ruffieu - Graduate of the Cadre Noir in Europe, Executive President of ASHA, author of The Handbook of Riding Essentials and The Handbook of Jumping Essentials, and in 1996 he was awarded the title of Master Instructor. She also holds a Level 1 Certificate in Parelli Natural Horsemanship Levels Program.
